Student Scholarship Opportunities

Faculty/Staff Opportunities


Sterrett Nursing Scholarship
Parameters:

  • Two, five-hundred dollar scholarships will be awarded each year to two practical nursing students at Sandersville Technical College (one at the Jefferson County Center and one at the main campus in Sandersville).
  • Each scholarship award will be distributed to the recipients in the amount of $250 at the beginning of the second (NSG 112) and final quarters (NSG 213) during their program.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must be enrolled in Nursing 110 and in the top 50% of the class to apply.
  • Applicants must submit:
    • Application
    • Essay on why they chose nursing as a career
    • A recommendation from a member of the practical nursing faculty
  • At the time of application submission, students must have completed a FAFSA application with the Financial Aid office and request that a copy of this be submitted to the committee as well as a copy of their college transcript.
  • Deadline for application package is December 5 for main campus students and June 6 for Jefferson County Campus students.
  • All application packages are to be turned in to the Financial Aid Office.

Awarding of the Scholarship:

  • The Sterrett Scholarship Review Committee will consist of the Institutional Advancement Office, Financial Aid Director, Banner Web A/P Representative and Admissions Director.
  • Application materials will be sent to each committee member for review by the Institutional Advancement Office within 5 days after the application deadline.
  • The committee will meet no later than three weeks after the application deadline and scholarship recipients will be chosen by the committee at this time based on the materials submitted.
  • The Financial Aid Director, STC Bookstore, and Banner Web A/R Representative will be notified by the Institutional Advancement office about the applicants of the scholarship as well as the name of the recipients.
  • The scholarship will be announced one week prior to the end of the quarter that the students are in Nursing 110.

Bennie Pete Bryan Welding Scholarship
Parameters:

  • Two, two hundred fifty dollar scholarships will be awarded each year to two Washington County High School seniors who have participated in the Dual Enrollment Welding program and plan to enter into the Welding diploma program at Sandersville Technical College.
  • Each scholarship award will be distributed to the recipients in the amount of $250 after the first day of class of enrollment quarter at STC.
  • Funds will be distributed for use in the following manner: 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must have participated in the Dual Enrollment welding program at Washington County High School.  
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to perform certain welding operations as requested by Bryan Welding and Fabrication.
  • Applicants must submit:
    • Application
    • A recommendation from a member of the welding faculty
  • Deadline for applications is March 31.
  • All application packages are to be turned in to the Financial Aid Office.

Awarding of the Scholarship:

  • The Bryan Welding Scholarship Review Committee will consist of the Institutional Advancement Office, Admissions Director, Banner Web A/R Representative, and Financial Aid Director of STC as well as one or two representatives from Bryan Welding.
  • Application materials will be sent to each committee member for review by the Institutional Advancement Office within 5 days after the application deadline.
  • The committee will meet no later than three weeks after the application deadline and scholarship recipients will be chosen by the committee at this time based on the materials submitted.
  • The Financial Aid Director, STC Bookstore, and Banner A/R personnel will be notified in writing by the Institutional Advancement office about the applicants of the scholarship as well as the names of the recipients.
  • The scholarships will be announced each year at the Annual Washington County Chamber of Commerce Banquet.  Awards will be made by a representative of Bryan Welding and Fabrication.

May-Smith Scholarship
Parameters:

  • One five hundred dollar scholarship will be awarded each year to a Washington County High School senior who has applied to and been accepted at Sandersville Technical College. 
  • Each scholarship award will be distributed to the recipients in the amount of $500 after the first day of class of enrollment quarter at STC.
  • Funds will be distributed for use in the following manner: 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have an overall high school grade point average of 80% or higher.
  • Applicant must have received a faculty recommendation (instructor or counselor) that includes the following qualities of applicant:
    • Integrity
    • Written/oral expression
    • Personality
    • Motivation
    • Initiative
    • Financial need
  • Applicants must provide an essay (200 words or less) addressing the financial need for the scholarship.
  • Applicant must provide any further evidence of financial need if applicable.  
  • Deadline for applications package is March 31.
  • All application packages are to be turned in to the Financial Aid Office.

Awarding of the Scholarship:

  • The May-Smith Scholarship Review Committee will consist of the Institutional Advancement Office, Admissions Director, and Financial Aid Director of STC as well as one or two representatives from May-Smith Funeral Directors.
  • Application materials will be sent to each committee member for review by the Institutional Advancement Office within 5 days after the application deadline.
  • The committee will meet no later than three weeks after the application deadline and scholarship recipients will be chosen by the committee at this time based on the materials submitted.
  • The Financial Aid Director, STC Bookstore, and Banner A/R personnel will be notified in writing by the Institutional Advancement office about the applicants of the scholarship as well as the names of the recipient.
  • The scholarships will be announced each year at the Annual Washington County Chamber of Commerce Banquet.  Awards will be made by a representative of May-Smith Funeral Directors.

Jack R. English Scholarship
Parameters:

  • Tiffany English Daniel has established the Jack R. English Scholarship in memory of her father, the late Jack R. English. Mr. English was a driving force in establishing the Commercial Truck Driving program at STC and served as Director of the program until 2001.
  • Two $250 scholarships will be awarded each year to a high school graduate who has applied to and been accepted at Sandersville Technical College (one to a high school senior in Glascock County and one to a high school senior in Jefferson County).
  • Each scholarship award will be distributed to the recipients in the amount of $250 after the first day of classes at STC.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must have an overall high school GPA of 80% or higher.
  • Applicants must have received a faculty recommendation (faculty member or counselor) in the form of a letter of recommendation that includes support for the following qualities of the applicant:
    • Honesty
    • Initiative
    • Motivation
    • Desire for a Higher Education
  • Applicants must provide a persuasive statement of 200—500 words explaining why they should be awarded the scholarship.  This statement should be typed and double-spaced using size 12 font.
  • The deadline for eligibility requirements is March 28.

Awarding of the Scholarship:

  • The Jack R. English Scholarship Review Committee will consist of three employees from Sandersville Technical College.
  • Application materials will be sent to each committee member for review by the Institutional Advancement Office within 5 days after the application deadline.
  • The committee will meet no later than three weeks after the application deadline and scholarship recipients will be chosen by the committee at this time based on the materials submitted.
  • The Financial Aid Director, STC Bookstore, and BANNER A/R personnel will be notified in writing by the Institutional Advancement Office about the applicants of the scholarship as well as the names of the recipients.
  • The scholarships will be announced each year at the annual Honor’s Day program or banquet in each county.  Awards will be made by Tiffany Daniel.

Kent Adult Education Scholarship
Parameters:

  • The Kent Adult Education Scholarship was established by STC Foundation Trustee Donald Kent in 2008 to assist students enrolled in the Adult Education program in Glascock County.
  • Scholarships will be awarded on a needs basis and will be used to defray the expense for GED testing.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be a resident of Glascock County.
  • Applicants will be considered upon referral of an Adult Literacy Instructor. 
  • Applicants must be enrolled as a student in the Adult Education program at Sandersville Tech.
    • To enroll in the Adult Education Program, students must take the TABE Placement Test.
    • Based on results of the TABE Placement Test the Adult Education Instructor will develop a plan to prepare the student for the GED test. A student that scores below 10.0 on the TABE will be recommended to enroll in GED Preparation classes before attempting the Official Practice Test. However, if a student has a score of 10.0 or higher on the TABE Test, the student will be scheduled for the next available Official Practice Test.
  • Applicants must score 2250 or higher on the Official Practice Test.
    • Due to State of Georgia requirements, students between the ages of 16 and 18 must score 2400 on the Official Practice Test.
  • Applicant must take all 5 sections of the GED Test.

Awarding of the Scholarship:

  • Scholarships will be awarded on an as needed basis to each recipient.
