Applicants to the Practical Nursing Program at Sandersville Technical College are admitted to the program on a first-applied, first-qualified basis. In order to be officially accepted into the Practical Nursing Program at Sandersville Technical College, in addition to the general admissions requirements, students must complete:
Practical Nursing Admissions:
-
Students will be admitted into the Health Care Assisting Technical Certificate of Credit. Following the successful completion (a grade of “C” or better) of all designated courses (ENG 101, English; MAT 101, General Mathematics; AHS 101, Anatomy and Physiology; AHS 104, Introduction to Health Care; AHS 109 Medical Terminology; PSY 101, Basic Psychology, and SCT 100, Introduction to Microcomputers), students will enter into a competitive process for determining eligibility to progress into occupational program courses. The formula used for the competitive process is: Total score = (designated courses GPA x 65%) + (PSB X 35%) + possible bonus points.
- The GPA is calculated using grades earned in the designated courses. When courses have been repeated, the highest grade will be used in the GPA calculation. AHS courses must be completed within the past three (3) years. The STC registrar will calculate GPA's for all students.
- The Psychological Services Bureau Aptitude exam (PSB) is a requirement for competition. The test may be taken more than once, but students must wait 30 days before retesting and must be taken and scored prior to acceptance. The highest overall score will be used in the competitive process. There is a $20 test recovery fee.
- Bonus points may be earned through documented program specific, paid full-time work experience. One (1) bonus point for every three (3) months of full-time work experience will be awarded with a maximum of five (5) bonus points for consecutive work experience. You must have worked in the last six months in the allied heath field. Work experience will be evaluated by the Department Chair.
- All students' total scores will be ranked from the highest to the lowest--with the students having the highest total scores being accepted. The total number of students accepted is based on the number of available openings.
- If you are not eligible for the Practical Nursing Program, you may register for the remainder of the courses in the Health Care Assisting TCC and receive the technical certificate of credit.
If you have a drug or assault related felony, this conviction may be sufficient for the Georgia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses to refuse to issue you a license at the conclusion of your course of study at Sandersville Technical College. A criminal background check is required prior to any clinical experience.
