Admissions Policy
The admissions policy of the State Board of Technical and Adult Education and Sandersville Technical College assures the citizens of Georgia equal access to the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for them to secure personally satisfying and socially productive employment.
By design and implementation, the policy and procedures governing admission to Sandersville Technical College are nondiscriminatory to any eligible applicant regardless of age, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, martial status, veteran status, academic or economic disadvantage, or disability.
Sandersville Technical College is committed to an “open door” admissions policy. The “open door” policy means that any qualified applicant able to benefit from our curriculum will be served by the college on a first-applied, first-qualified basis.
General Entrance Requirements
Admission to Sandersville Technical College is not a guarantee of admission to a specific diploma or certificate program. The admission process encourages students to enter programs in which they have a reasonable expectation of success.
Applicants must be at least 16 year of age or older. Specific programs in health occupations, Early Childhood Care and Education, and Commercial Truck Driving may have higher age requirements.
A high school diploma or a GED is required as a prerequisite for entrance into the some of the degree, diploma and certificate programs. Please check with the admissions office or the STC Catalog and Student Handbook for program specific information.
Program Specific Entrance Requirements
High School Diploma/GED
All degree and diploma programs require a General Educational Development Diploma (GED) or high school diploma and SAT/ACT, or ASSET/COMPASS placement test scores. Teh majority of certificate programs do require a GED or a high school diploma or SAT/ACT, or ASSET/COMPASS placement test scores. A fer certificate programs do not have these requirements please check with the admissions office or the STC Catalog and Student Handbook.
The President of Sandersville Technical College has the authority to grant a waiver to the admissions requirement as it relates only to possessing a GED or high school diploma for those secondary students who are otherwise eligible to enroll in a program of study that is agreed upon by the secondary school and the technical college. Prior to graduation from a technical college, however, students in diploma, degree, and specified programs must receive a GED or high school diploma.
Students completing a secondary program of study that is not approved by the United States Department of Education nor accepted by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education via a recognized accreditation agency may be admitted to a technical college by attaining a GED or through one of the following paths.
Documentation of designated home study program activities; and appropriate placement test cut-off scores (e.g. ASSET-Compass); and a minimum SAT score of 430 verbal/400 math or ACT score of 18 verbal/16 math.
Students with diplomas from secondary schools located outside the United States may have their transcripts evaluated for equivalency by an approved outside evaluation organization or meet the requirements of above.
Students being admitted via the two steps above may be waived from meeting the graduation requirements by the President.
Admissions Steps
Students must:
- Submit a completed application for admission with a one-time nonrefundable $15.00 fee. (The fee waived for currently enrolled High School Students).
- Submit a completed FAFSA and/or HOPE Form for Financial Aid.
- Submit an official copy of your high school transcript or GED scores to the Admissions Office.
- Submit an official copy of all post-secondary transcripts for any colleges, vocational/technical, or business schools attended.
- Veterans must submit a copy of form DD214 or AARTS transcript.
- Take the ASSET placement test. More information concerning the ASSET placement test can be found at http://www.act.org/asset/, as well as a sample exam.
- For TCCs or Diplomas, In lieu of ASSET, official scores on the SAT of 430 verbal and 400 math or ACT scores of 18 in English and 16 in math may be submitted. Students may also submit CPE scores of reading 75, English 75 and mathematics 75.
- For Degrees the following scores are to be used: official scores on the SAT 460 verbal and 430 Math or ACT scores of 20 in English and 18 in Math may be submitted. Student may also submit CPE scores for degree of reading 75, English 75 and mathematics 75; or Compass scores of Reading 75, English 60, Math 36, and Algebra 40.
- These scores may be accepted if they are no more than five years old.
- Official transcripts from regionally/nationally accredited post-secondary institutions documenting successful completion (a grade of C or better) is equivalent, program level English and math courses may be submitted in lieu of taking the placement test.
- NOTE: Reasonable accommodations are made during testing for those who need them. Please notify the Admissions Office prior to the scheduled test date.
