Georgia Mining Foundation Scholarship
2008 TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Georgia Mining Association is comprised of over 40 mining and mineral producers who have operations in 112 counties in Georgia. The Association also includes more than 160 other companies that provide the mining industry with supplies and services. These companies have a significant impact on Georgia with more than 7,000 persons directly employed in the companies’ operations.
The Georgia Mining Foundation was established fourteen years ago with a $20,000 scholarship fund to be distributed as individual scholarships. This year, the Georgia Mining Foundation will be giving away $250 scholarships to students attending technical colleges in Georgia. Students attending a Georgia technical college, and who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply.
The applicant must:
- have an overall average of 85% or higher;
- receive a faculty recommendation (instructor or counselor). The recommendation (maximum one page) should address the following personal qualities: integrity, written/oral expression, personality, motivation, initiative, and financial need;
- provide an essay (200 words or less) addressing your financial need for the scholarship; and
- provide any further evidence of financial need (if applicable).
The Foundation will host a luncheon in which the check will be presented to the student, and a photograph will be taken. Deadline for the Application and Letter of Recommendation is February 28, 2008.
