STC Adult Ed Students Visit Tennille Retirement Home
Students and teachers in the Adult Education Program at Sandersville Technical College brought a little extra spring to the residents of the Tennille Retirement Home.
Eight residents were surprised when instructors Jennifer Todd and Regina Powell, along with their students Alexander Davenport, Vickey Johnson, Barbie Jordan, Darius Swint, Helen Watts, Franklin Smith, Wendell Hampton, Kenyatta Jordan, and Thomas Walden, arrived bearing gift bags full of spring goodies.
“We try to find different ways to give back to our community, and this time we decided to show our appreciation to some local retirees,” stated Instructor Regina Powell. The bags were full of potted flowers, sweets, fruit, stationery, inspirational frames, and spa toiletries. The residents were very grateful and fell in love with their visitors immediately.
One resident stated, “It makes me feel good to know that these students and teachers thought enough of us to come visit and bring us these gifts. It’s a really good feeling.”
Instructor Jennifer Todd explains, “One focus of adult education is expanding our students’ awareness of their community, and projects like this take them to places they would not ordinarily visit. The students come out with a sense of appreciation and pride,” explains Todd.
