The Adult Education students at Sandersville Technical College’s Jefferson County Center took reading to the next level as part of “Get Caught Reading” month. Officially celebrated in May, the month encourages leisure reading and reminds people of all ages how much fun it is to read. Activities included a visit from Patricia Edwards, Director of the Jefferson County Library System.
“The library is a treasure chest; each of the county’s three library branches has a wide selection of books to suit every reading interest and age group,” explained Edwards. The library offers large-print books, audio books, educational/family movies, copying/faxing, local newspapers, and computers with Internet access.
“Sometimes classroom reading assignments are too restrictive; educational as it may be, it may not be the student’s first choice of topic. Reading is more enjoyable when students can visit the library and choose what they want to read,” explained Raydor Coneway, an Adult Education Instructor at STC.
Each student received a personal copy of the book, Making the Most of Your Life: Eight Motivational Stories & Essays. The students were also treated to pizza and drinks for their progress in the classroom.
