Evening on Aging hosts good turnout

By Justin Law

"Alzheimer's is one form of dementia that is getting more prevalent in the United States," says Dr. Richard Aronson at the Evening on Aging last Tuesday, October 16.

Aronson discusses various forms of dementia, how to detect it, measure it, and the impact it has on the family and more importantly, the individual. Later in his speech he cautioned to caregivers that patients will be more cooperative in learning if the caregiver is less aggressive with them. Other speakers included Michael Ferguson and Joe Shyrock.

The event was held at Sandersville Technical College. Serving on the program committee were: Sandra Seals of Heritage Inn, Becky Browning of Scott Health & Rehab, Bonnie Tanner of United Hospice, Ashley Gheesling of the Extended Care Facility, Ronda Harmon of Source Care management, Valencia Buck of Smith's Nursing Center, Patty Graybill of Wrightsville Manor, and Robin Smith of Oconee Health Care.

Members of the Pilot Club assisted with Hospitality. Refreshments were provided by Ortho-McNeil Neurologics, Inc.
