WCHS Tours STC, Discovers Education & Career Possibilities
On Monday, November 26th, a group of juniors and seniors from Washington County High School visited Sandersville Technical College. Mrs. Wadley, the group’s instructor, wanted the students to learn about the admissions process and financial aid opportunities as well as tour the college.
Mrs. Shirley Forrest, Director of Admissions for STC, met the group and discussed the admissions process and the types of programs that Sandersville Tech offers. “This is an excellent opportunity for a glimpse into the possibilities that are available after high school. A wide range of rewarding, well-paying careers are available locally,” Forrest told the group.
Mrs. Betty Young, Director of Financial Aid, met with the students and informed that everyone can get an education. She discussed the HOPE grant and its qualifications as well as the Pell Grant.
“I encourage each of you to take advantage of the postsecondary education available to you at Sandersville Tech so that you can have a rewarding career and future. With the variety of financial aid programs and numerous other services available at STC, you can make it happen,” Young explained.
After meeting in the auditorium, the students toured the campus beginning with the Technical and Industrial wing. Mark Stewart talked with the students about becoming industrial electricians; Tony Simmons toured the students through the welding lab and discussed welding careers. The students then toured the computer labs with Mrs. Selwyn May and learned about the PC Repair program. Ms. Michelle Weatherford talked with the students about careers in health occupations and toured the medical assisting lab. The students concluded the tour with a visit to the Cosmetology lab; Mrs. Lanie Freeman discussed the many rewarding careers in cosmetology and gave a tour of the nail, facial, and hair stations in the salon.
