STC's Summer Computer Camp for Kids

The STC Jefferson County Center had kids typing away on computers and asking people about seafood this summer during its Computer Camp for Kids.

Kids ages 7 to 13 attended a week of fun at led by Julie Prescott, an Adjunct Instructor at Sandersville Tech. The camp’s theme was "Entrepreneurship", and each child created a business and used the computer to set it up.

"This was an interactive way to use the computer and also for them to have fun with a computer in a way other than games, says Prescott. Some of the kids came up with a restaurant theme and did surveys with the “employees” to see which theme was the most popular. The winner was "seafood" so each kid named their own seafood restaurant.

"I named mine Big Shrimp since I love shrimp and seafood," says Evans Hodges, a camp attendee. "‘Mutant Lobster’ is on my menu" says Jackson Hildebrant.

The camp lasted 5 days from 9am to Noon with a snack each day. "The camp is a good way to increase the kid’s computer skills and provide educational benefits while the kids just know that it’s fun," mentions Prescott.

"This is a fun outlet for kids during the summer before they go back to school," says Center Director Matt Hodges. "Hopefully this will become an annual event and we have more opportunities to shine for our children like this in other areas," says Hodges.

Kid’s at Computer Camp at the STC Jefferson County Center take a snack break to discuss their new seafood restaurant enterprises.
