Pride In Your Path
Life is about choices. Parents teach their children every day of their life by their example and their choices for them. Every parent wants to raise their children to be the best individuals they can be –healthy, happy, loving, intelligent, and self-sufficient.
One path that many parents choose for their child is college, perhaps a four-year college or university. The accepted belief is that a four-year college is the best way to establish a promising future and earn a good income. It is a good choice, and it is one path. But it is not the only good choice or path.
75% of all jobs across the state and in our area require less than a 4 year degree, but they require additional education and training beyond high school. STC is an ideal solution to meet this need.
And children need to know this fact directly from their parents. Tell your children that they have options after graduation. A Technical College education is just as rewarding and respectable as a four-year college education.
Variety is the Spice of Life

The State of Georgia also provides a great deal of financial aid options for technical college students so that many owe little or nothing for their education. Do not let that fact escape you.
And don’t forget about flexibility – classes at STC are available in 3 physical locations, online and at varying times of the day to suit everyone’s schedules.
Early Birds Get the Worm
Start early. High school students – no matter their intended college path – can begin college education during high school. At Sandersville Tech, students can earn a certificate of credit that earns them both high school and college credit starting in the 11 h grade. So, when they graduate high school, they have options. Their early start can be a great college job to earn money while they go on to a four-year college. Or perhaps it is starting point for a diploma or degree at STC. Even still, the certificate may be all that the student needed to plunge into the career of their choice after high school. Any way you look at it, students with college training prior to high school graduation are ahead of the pack.
But don’t wait to hear it from school. If your teenager isn’t already participating in dual enrollment classes at STC with their high school, make a point to talk with your student’s guidance counselor or school principle.
Lastly, start talking about career and college paths early, as early as the 6 th grade. Your child may not know all of the wonderful possibilities available to them, so allow them to openly explore career opportunities with you.
Your Measure of Success
Let your teenagers and children know that there are many good paths after they graduate high school. Give them the permission to make a choice that will make them happy and successful in life. Whether it’s a four-year college or your local technical college, there are many paths to success.
Here is a cool fact to drive that fact home. The ACT** Policy Report: College Readiness Begins in Middle School reveals “all students surveyed indicated that their mother or female guardian was a major influence in their class and intended career selection....” With hundreds of thousands surveyed, know that your children do listen to what you say.
