Program Description

Fundamentals of Commercial Truck Driving introduces students to the trucking industry, federal and state regulations, records and forms, industrial relations, and other non-driving activities with emphasis on safety that will continue throughout the program.

Basic Operations focuses on familiarizing students with truck instruments and controls and on performing basic maneuvers required to drive safely in a controlled environment and on the Driving Range. Each student must receive at least twelve (12) hours behind-the– wheel (BTW) instructional time in range operations—operating a tractor trailer through clearance maneuvers, backing, turning, parallel parking, and coupling & uncoupling.

Advanced Operations focuses on developing driving skills under actual road conditions. The classroom part of the course stresses following safe operating practices. One the road, safe operating practices are integrated into the development of driving skills.

Each student must receive at least twelve (12) hours behind the wheel instructional time on the streets/roads. In addition, the student must have a minimum program total of 44 (forty-four) hours behind the wheel (BTW) instructional time in any combination (with CTD 102) of range and street/road driving.
