Program Description
Commercial Truck Driving Technical Certificate of Credit
Fundamentals of Commercial Truck Driving introduces students to the trucking industry, federal and state regulations, records and forms, industrial relations, and other non-driving activities with emphasis on safety that will continue throughout the program.
Basic Operations focuses on familiarizing students with truck instruments and controls and on performing basic maneuvers required to drive safely in a controlled environment and on the Driving Range. Each student must receive at least twelve (12) hours behind-the– wheel (BTW) instructional time in range operations—operating a tractor trailer through clearance maneuvers, backing, turning, parallel parking, and coupling & uncoupling.
Advanced Operations focuses on developing driving skills under actual road conditions. The classroom part of the course stresses following safe operating practices. One the road, safe operating practices are integrated into the development of driving skills.
Each student must receive at least twelve (12) hours behind the wheel instructional time on the streets/roads. In addition, the student must have a minimum program total of 44 (forty-four) hours behind the wheel (BTW) instructional time in any combination (with CTD 102) of range and street/road driving.
Note: State law requires that, whenever a vehicle is operated on public roads, an instructor must be present in the truck while a student is driving.

Admission Requirements
Age 21 — (18-20 Years of Age admitted but will be limited to driving in Georgia only until 21)
Valid Georgia Driver's License (If you have restrictions on your license or a previous out of state license, please notify us prior to applying.)
Provide 7 year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from The Department of Driver's Services (Cost $7.00)
No more than 8 points (5 points in one year)
No more than 4 moving violations
No DUI/Open Container, Substance, or Drug
violations in the past 7 years.
Placement test ASSET scores:
Reading 29
English 29
Math 29
Pass NIDA 5 drug screen. (Must be taken at Washington County Regional Medical Center - WCRMC; Cost $39)
Pass DOT physical exam (Approximate Cost $40 -200) (Pre existing conditions should be discussed with your physician prior to entrance into the program)
If you have has MSHA Training in the last year, you must bring a copy of your MSHA Training Card or Certificate the first day of class.
HOPE Grant available to eligible students.
